Austin, TEXAS – June 9, 2014 – Barracuda Racing driver Austin Dyne scored a top-five finish at his first-ever X Games appearance, at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, TX. The event marks the second round of the exciting Red Bull Global Rallycross season championship.
Despite mechanical gremlins that limited the young rookie’s track time on Friday, the Barracuda Racing team worked quickly in resolving a broken differential and modifying suspension setup. Austin Dyne’s No. 14 Ford Fiesta hit the ground running once the competition began.
With just one Red Bull GRC race under his belt, and facing a lineup of some of the world’s best drivers, Dyne proved that he belonged on the grid at X Games. After winning the Quarter Final and finishing second in the Semi Final, he placed himself on the front row to start the 10-lap Main event.
The action-packed weekend attracted a total of nineteen entries, with only six of them able to advance to the final for a shot at an X Games Gold Medal. Dyne hit all his marks and put himself in prime position for a run at the Main event podium.
There was much excitement and anticipation heading into the Red Bull GRC Final. Unfortunately, on lap 3 while coming into the hairpin, Dyne was racing hard with Olsbergs MSE driver Patrik Sandell and there was contact. The impact broke the suspension on the No. 14 Barracuda Racing Ford Fiesta, resulting in a loss of steering and Dyne was forced to retire with a finish of fifth place overall. The incident caused a red flag and Sandell was penalized for avoidable contact.
“We showed everyone that our team isn’t here to play and we are here to race and showed it today,” exclaimed Austin Dyne. “On to DC for some redemption.”
With a strong start to the 2014 season, Dyne continues to deliver consistent results on track and looks poised for more strong results. The next stop for the series will take place in Washington DC for the Volkswagen Rallycross on June 22.
