Sheehan Scores Pro Am Podium Finish in Eventful Laguna Seca Showdown

Monterey, CALIFORNIA – May 6, 2025 – New Hampshire’s Tom Sheehan rounded off his excursion to the Golden State in fine style with a podium P3 finish in the Cube 3 Architecture TA2 Series Pro Am Challenge presented by Pirelli at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on May 3. When the penalties were totted up and the results finalized, Tom’s overall finishing position in the National Championship was upgraded from a provisional P13 to P9. The top-10 finish marked a significant upturn in Tom’s fortunes after what had previously been a frustrating start to the 2025 season for the much respected Trans Am Ironman.

The race turned out to be a thrilling way to end the California double-header, with the notorious Corkscrew turn claiming numerous victims over the course of the 75-minute feature race. The key question for drivers was how quickly one could get back on the track after contact – as most the field was caught up in at least one incident. Tom demonstrated his tremendous experience and expertise with a superb maneuver to maintain both his own competitiveness and prevent the race from going to a full course caution. As the Speed Sport 1 commentator Ralph Sheheen observed, “Tom Sheehan did a great job there when he had a little spin at the corkscrew but great job rolling out of the way and keeping us green!”

Tom Sheehan’s comments after the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 race, “Jason gets this one, we just couldn’t catch a break in the first three rounds. Jason stuck in there with me and we started to turn this around. It was rough on track we had to battle back from getting dumped in Turn 8, basically coming back from the rear [of the field.] The last restart we got shuffled back in the melee up in Turn 8 and was lucky to hang on to the car and get back to the line. I kept my nose clean all day. We had a car at the end to finish with and needed a little pace to contest for the win. I’m happy to head back east to my home track at Lime Rock. I’m sure looking forward to getting around there.”

Starting in P26, Tom made significant gains throughout the race, recovering from his spin in the corkscrew with a best lap time of 1:29:931 in the No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Vixen Motorcycle / Mike Cope Mustang en route to claim 83 Pro Am Challenge Championship points.

The Lime Rock Speed tour at Lime Rock Park May 23 to 26 is the next venue for the evergreen Trans Am series and if you’re unable to attend in person there’s great coverage on the Trans Am presented by Pirelli YouTube channel and Speed Sport 1.
